Our planning group made the decision after last year's Mission JC in April 2024 to move this year's Mission JC to the fall. We felt our overall work would be more effective by not being back-to-back with SERVE JC in April. More overall work could be done, and different needs could be met.
It is only a few days until October 19 and the culmination of months of planning. Hundreds have volunteered for about 50 projects. Some churches are dismissing worship to participate. Others are encouraging members to volunteer this Sunday. The weather forecast looks good. The Chiefs aren't even scheduled to play until noon - and an away game at that! At this point we are concerned with projects that could use more people, and making sure we have the supplies on hand that are balanced with the number of people we anticipate will turn out. However, we need to keep in mind why this is our 11th year of Mission JC. It is because for many of us we are sharing God's love through service to our city. Others want to be a part of something special and care for our community. If you haven't signed up yet, please do so. Make plans to join us at the First Baptist Church gym on Monroe (a different location!) in your red shirt @ 8 am and then serve from 9-12. Don't forget to use the hashtag #missionjc2025 when you share your stories and pictures.. We're excited! We are looking forward to seeing, worshipping, and serving alongside you!

We are excited about the changes that are coming in this year's Mission JC.
After much deliberation, we moved the date to the Fall. In this way we can encourage volunteers to take part in the United Way's Serve Jeff City in the Spring without duplicating each other's work. This year's Mission JC is scheduled for October 19 -- just eight weeks away! We are currently in the process of determining projects and enlisting project leaders. If you have a project suggestion or want to learn more about leadeship opportunities, contact Mike Downing or contact the First Baptist Churh office (573.634.3603 or [email protected]). Some participating churches are dismissing morning services to be the church in our community. Other churches are encouraging their members to be involved. And other volunteers are involved because of a desire to serve the community or community pride. Een if you cannot be there in person, you can encourage others to participate. Or purchase project supplies at our Amazon Wishlist. (Details coming,.) Registration starts on September 21! There are just two weeks until Mission JC on April 28!
People are signing up for projects and we'll be highlighting projects looking for more volunteers on social media. This year's chair, Mike Downing, will be interviewed this Tuesday morning at 6:45 a.m. on KRCG Live at Dawn. What can you do to help?
#YOUCareHERE #MISSIONJC2024 The planning team has already had their first meeting for this year's Mission JC that will be held on April 28, 2024.
Even as we begin to line up projects and enlist leaders, you can already be involved: * Encourage your church and congregation to be involved. * Pray for us to discover projects that will do the most good and offer opportunities for all ages. * Pray for leaders and materials to be available. * Pray for the publicity to be effective in reaching the community as well as volunteers. * Pray for cooperative weather. * Pray for the day, that people will make a difference and our love for the city will make a difference. Rain, rain, rain ...
While there are a lot of things we control, weather is not one of them. When it rains, we make the best of it. And while certainly this impacts some of our outdoor projects, our prayers and thoughts are with those throughout our city and our state dealing with flooding. That is, by far, more important than any inconveniences we might experience. We will update the website here Saturday and Sunday morning to advise people on which projects have been canceled. If you registered for a project, your project leader will contact you directly. OPTIONS IF YOUR PROJECT IS CANCELED: 1. SIGN UP FOR SOMETHING ELSE. Go to our volunteer section and register for another online project while those spots are open. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate everyone. 2. CREATE YOUR OWN ACT OF SERVICE. You may also choose to do something on your own in the spirit of Mission JC as we share acts of kindness and love in the name of Christ.
3. ATTEND ANOTHER CHURCH. Some churches in our community are holding worship services on Sunday, April 30. Please consult the individual church website for service times. |
